Securing a Facility as Big as 40 Basketball Courts
When a 270,000 sq. ft. warehouse and production facility in Milton, Ontario needed a fully integrated security system from the ground up, they partnered with Sense Group.
This project showcases how a combination of advanced security cameras, access control systems, BAS-IP intercoms, and intrusion alarms was deployed to protect a site as large as 40 basketball courts.

Security Case Study: Designing for Multiple Security Zones
For a facility this size, a one-size-fits-all approach wouldn’t work. To create effective coverage and control, we divided the warehouse into five main security zones, each with unique operational challenges, lighting conditions, and monitoring priorities. By assigning the right technology to each space, we achieved maximum visibility and reliability.
Offices
- Requirement: Monitor staff areas without creating an intrusive work environment, while protecting sensitive business and client information stored on-site. Office areas often require smaller, less visible cameras that still produce sharp, identifiable video.
- Solution: Compact 8MP Dome Cameras delivering high-resolution footage with discreet design. These cameras blend with office interiors, preventing visual clutter while capturing clear images for security audits. Learn more about our CCTV solutions.
Entrances & Loading Docks
- Requirement: Around-the-clock visibility over high-traffic points where people, vehicles, and goods constantly move in and out. These zones are among the most vulnerable for unauthorized entry or theft.
- Solution: Uniview Dual-Dome Cameras capable of monitoring two directions from a single mount, covering large areas with fewer devices. This setup reduced cabling needs, shortened installation time, and minimized long-term maintenance costs.
Production Floor
- Requirement: Cameras that can operate in environments with dust, fluctuating temperatures, and machinery vibration, without losing clarity. Production areas often have changing light levels, making image consistency a challenge.
- Solution: LightHunter Dome Cameras built to handle tough industrial settings. Their weather-resistant casing and superior low-light imaging produce clear footage even during night shifts or in dimly lit workstations.
Warehouse Aisles
- Requirement: Eliminate blind spots across long aisles where products are stored. Standard single-lens cameras often leave gaps in coverage between shelves, which can be exploited for theft or lead to inventory disputes.
- Solution: Multi-sensor cameras with individually adjustable lenses to cover multiple angles from one unit. These cameras capture continuous footage across an entire aisle, ensuring complete stock visibility and easier inventory management.
Perimeter
- Requirement: A constant watch over the outer boundaries of the property, regardless of weather or time of day. Perimeter monitoring acts as the first line of defence against intrusions.
- Solution: ColorHunter Turret Cameras providing bright, full-colour video 24/7, even at night. The ability to capture accurate colour detail during low light greatly improves identification of people, vehicles, and objects near the fence line or entry gates.
Project Challenges We Faced
The warehouse’s vast size and lack of any existing security setup created multiple challenges that required strategic planning and specialized installation expertise.
1. No existing security infrastructure
The warehouse was a completely open space with no cameras, wiring, or network hardware in place. Every cable run, device mount, and network connection had to be built from the ground up. This included running structured cabling, installing network switches, and connecting everything back to a central server room. Our network cabling services were essential in creating the backbone for both CCTV and access control systems.
2. Short deadline
The client required the entire system to be live and fully operational within just 30 days. Considering the size of the property, equivalent to 40 basketball courts, and the variety of security technologies being installed, this was a time-sensitive and high-pressure project. The timeline required precise scheduling, back-to-back equipment deployment, and parallel work across multiple zones.

3. Different technical needs for each section
No two areas had the same requirements. The production floor needed rugged, low-light cameras. The perimeter required outdoor-rated units with full-colour night vision. Office areas demanded discreet, high-resolution devices for monitoring without disrupting the workplace. This meant our team had to carefully plan not just where devices would be installed, but also which models and settings would deliver the best results for each space.
A dedicated six-person installation crew was assigned to work exclusively on-site until completion. The team coordinated daily with the facility’s management to avoid disruptions to operations, while ensuring every camera, access control point, and alarm system was installed to meet the high-performance and reliability standards Sense Group is known for.

Integrated Security Technologies – Project Breakdown
The Milton warehouse required a combination of advanced hardware, tailored configurations, and seamless integration to create a single, unified security ecosystem. Here’s how each system was deployed and connected.
1. CCTV Surveillance
Equipment Used:
- 73 Uniview Dome Cameras – including 2× 4MP Dual-Dome Cameras (IPC328SB-ADF40K-I0). These compact, reliable, and high-resolution units were strategically placed in offices, warehouse zones, and at key entry points like loading docks and production areas. The dual-dome models delivered wide-angle, two-direction coverage from a single device, reducing the number of mounts and cable runs needed.
- 25 Multi-Sensor Cameras (IPC8645EA-ADZKM-I1) – each unit houses four 5MP lenses, providing complete 360° coverage from one installation point. Positioned at heights of up to 40 ft in the storage aisles, they eliminated blind spots while reducing labour and cabling costs compared to multiple single-lens cameras.
- 11 LightHunter Dome Cameras (IPC3238SB-ADZK-I0) – specifically designed for low-light and outdoor environments. These cameras produced sharp, colour-rich images around the clock, making them ideal for perimeter protection and outdoor loading areas.
- 4 Fisheye Cameras (IPC86CEB-AF18KC-I0) – offering 360° panoramic views in high-risk areas such as warehouse corners and intersections, ensuring no activity went unrecorded.
System Features:
- Real-Time Monitoring – Powered by a 256-Channel Uniview NVR, the entire setup handled all 113 physical cameras and generated 188 video streams without delays or dropped frames.
- RAID Storage Configuration – The NVR was equipped with 20 hard drives, providing 200TB of storage in RAID 5 and RAID 6 configurations for redundancy. This setup guaranteed uninterrupted recording even in the event of multiple drive failures.
- Advanced Motion Detection – Intelligent motion analytics minimized false alarms by filtering out environmental triggers like flickering lights, shadows, or snowfall while focusing on people and vehicles.
- Remote Access – Management could view live footage and recordings from any device via mobile app or web browser, enabling security oversight from anywhere in the world.
